Overview
The “Login Protection” feature of the WP Safe Zone plugin enhances the security of your WordPress site by safeguarding the login pages from unauthorized access and brute-force attacks. This feature implements multiple layers of security to ensure only legitimate users can access the login page.
Key Features
Math Problem
- The plugin adds a math problem to all WordPress login pages and neutralizes unwanted login attempts.
Login Attempt Limitations
- After 10 failed login attempts within a short period of time, the plugin bans the user/bot IP.
Email Notifications
- Sends email alerts to the administrator when suspicious login attempts are detected.
How to Configure Login Protection
Accessing the Settings
- Navigate to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to WP Safe Zone > Settings > Firewall Settings.
- Toggle on the Login Protection.
IP Whitelisting
In the WP Safe Zone > Whitelist section, enter IP addresses you want to whitelist from Firewall.
- Whitelist: Users from these IP addresses will always be allowed to direct access the login page and exclude on Firewall.
Click Save Changes.
Best Practices
- Regularly Update Whitelists: Keep your IP lists up to date to ensure authorized users have access and unauthorized users are blocked.
- Monitor Login Attempts: Regularly check the logs for any unusual activity and adjust security settings as necessary.
- Use Strong Passwords: Encourage users to use strong, unique passwords to enhance security.
- Educate Users: Ensure that users understand the importance of security measures.
Troubleshooting
I’m Locked Out of My Account
- Check IP Whitelisting: Ensure your IP address is not accidentally blacklisted.
- Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser’s cache can resolve access issues.
- Disable Plugin Temporarily: If you have access to your site’s files via FTP or cPanel, you can temporarily disable the plugin by renaming its folder in the
/wp-content/plugins/
directory.
